Agile City, Winston-Salem, NC, recently announced the 9 winners of their Venture Winston Grants. Dr. Camila Pulgar Guzam from Salud Mental Health is part of the 25 finalists in Agile City’s inaugural program and has been selected as one of the $50,000 grant winners out of 1200 applications from 50 states and 22 countries.
Dr. Camila Pulgar Guzman is a recent graduate of the Department of Counseling and Educational Development. As part of a course she engaged in a KickBox innovation project that allowed her to develop a prototype of a mental health kit for Latinx clients. Following the course, she served as a School of Education Impact Through Innovation Student Fellow and continued to refine and expand her project. Later she partnered with Launch UNCG to form an I-Corps team in which she received seed funding to develop, brand and market her Latinx mental health tool kit. This series of investments from the School of Education and Launch UNCG positioned Camila to expand her work and receive a Venture Winston Salem grant.
Salud Mental Health (Winston-Salem, NC), is a mental health kit that helps Latinx families overcome the stigma of mental health challenges and talk openly about their feelings, emotions, and pain. The toolkit brings together culturally sensitive materials in Spanish for individuals to learn about mental health concerns, how to seek help, and engage in treatment with a professional.
