Featured Image for Developing Educators Through Microcourses

Across our school districts, universities, and educational organizations, talented professionals dedicate their careers to public education, leveraging their skills, expertise, and passion to transform lives through learning.  Fall 2024 begins our third year of working with neighboring school districts to deliver high quality professional development to educators through the Microcourse program

For the past two years, UNCG’s School of Education has partnered with Guilford County Schools to provide courses such as Math Coaching to faculty, and has now expanded to elementary schools providing courses such as Seeing Math Through Children’s Eyes, where participants collaboratively explore how to create opportunities for children in grades preK-2 to engage in mathematical problem solving in ways that center their ideas and sensemaking.

Asheboro City Schools is also beginning their third year of offering Microcourses for faculty professional development.  Dr. Victoria Jacobs continues her work with elementary teachers, while Drs. Edna Tan and Morgan Chitiyo facilitate courses aimed at culturally responsive teaching and positive behavior supports for middle grades and high school teachers.

Although IPiE now has a Microcourse catalog consisting of more than 20 offerings, we continue to collaborate with our partners to tailor to the unique needs of each district.  For more information on how you can incorporate Microcourses into your school or district’s professional development plans, please contact ipie@uncg.edu.
