Impact Through Innovations’ Kickbox is an innovation toolkit that continues to spark amazing solutions to real-world educational challenges by UNC Greensboro School of Education students.
An 8 year-old girl maneuvers a plastic knight that is almost as tall as she is. Scooting it diagonally across a giant black and white checkerboard, she completes her chess move with a smile. In another room, an instructor leads a yoga class for seniors. On the event board, a poster informs visitors that a cooking class will be held on an upcoming weekend.
Graduate students engaged in innovation with the UNC Greensboro School of Education will soon have a new fellowship opportunity available to them thanks to the generosity of Paula and Rick Short who have established an endowment. Recipients of the award will work closely with the School of Education’s Impact Through Innovation (ITI) program which will lend support to the development and implementation of their ideas.
Impact Through Innovation (ITI) seeks to make SOE faculty and students change agents by promoting inventive solutions to the practical challenges faced by educational institutions, the individuals they serve, and the organizations with which they partner. The COVID-19 pandemic has presented children and their caregivers with a myriad of challenges. One of these is a long pause on public events, including Storytime at the library. Libraries have nimbly added many virtual offerings, but nothing can replace the treasured experience of being read to in person, from a book that a young child can reach out and touch, with related activities available to support early literacy.
