Help Launch Graduating Educators

North Carolina teachers spend as much as $1,300 of their own money on school supplies each year, some $400 more than the national average. As UNC Greensboro prepares to send 136 students currently earning their teaching licenses into the education workforce, the UNCG Staff Senate is determined they will not have to spend so much out of their own pockets.

Dawkins Chosen as President-Elect of American Association of School Librarians

The American Association of School Librarians has announced that members have elected April Dawkins, Assistant Professor for Information, Library, and Research Sciences, as the 2025-2026 President-Elect. She will serve as the AASL President during the 2026-2027 term and immediate Past President in 2027-2028.

ELC Welcomes Participants for Seventh Critical Conversations Conference

The Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations in the UNC Greensboro School of Education hosted the seventh annual Critical Conversations Conference on Saturday, March 1, 2025. This year’s theme was “Grounded and Growing: Collective Work to Strengthen Education and Communities.” The theme addressed the changing political, social, and cultural landscape in education and the increasing need for collaboration among educators, students, communities, and organizations.

For Matt Fisher, creativity thrives at the intersection of art and engineering. As assistant director of the Teaching Resources Center and Student Educator Learning Factory (SELF) Design Studio, he’s the mastermind behind the Cardboard Robot Parade, which will make its second annual trek down the Jackson Library Lawn on April 5 at 3:45 pm.

Trio of Students Recognized with UNCG SOE’s Smiley Award

The Smiley Award, which supports global educational opportunities for current School of Education (SOE) undergraduate and graduate students, has been presented to undergraduate student Leila Jane Lovell (Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education) and graduate students Haeju Lee (Department of Information, Library, and Research Sciences) and Parishi Gandhi (Department of Counseling and Educational Development). These students will represent the SOE as Global Education Ambassadors through international or local engagement.
