Research that is having a direct impact on North Carolinians led to UNC Greensboro students Sarah Leck and Stacy Huff representing the university, and the School of Education’s Department of Information, Library, and Research Sciences, at the annual Graduate Education Day hosted by the North Carolina Council of Graduate Schools.
Melanie Sellers, enrolled in the Birth-Kindergarten licensure program, was selected as the 2024 UNCG Student Teacher of the Year. Sellers completed her student teaching at WNCSource Children’s Center in Hendersonville, N.C.
The 2023-2024 Belonging Project Grants, led by Dr. Heather Coleman and alongside three Ph.D. students in the Department of Specialized Education Services (SES) – Kyle Dunlap, Rahaf Alsaidalani, and Faris Alshahrani – aim to engage a sense of belonging among the department’s doctoral students at UNC Greensboro. This initiative seeks to hold more events to meet the needs of doctoral students and faculty members in the SES department to build an interactive community.
An accomplished TESOL educator who boasts over 25 years of experience around the world, Analia Wells was selected by the U.S. Department of State to participate in a four-week English Language Specialist project that focuses on Teacher Training for SEL in Albania.
The Smiley Award, which supports global educational opportunities for current School of Education (SOE) undergraduate and graduate students, has been presented to undergraduate student Mary Beth McCaskill (Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education) and graduate student Youn Jung Ho (Department of Counseling and Educational Development). These students will represent the SOE as Global Education Ambassadors through international or local engagement.
