Sadaria Lewis is an Interpreting, Deaf Education, and Advocacy Services (IDEAS) major from Rochester, N.Y., who expects to graduate in December of 2027.
Why did you choose UNCG?
Because of the IDEAS program and the beneficial aspects of the school that help me grow and gain a career in my field.
What is your favorite place on campus?
The School of Education Building.
What has been your favorite class and why?
My Disabled Community course because I got to learn about the differences of being hearing, deaf, and blind and how they connect and disconnect. I also got to experience what it’s like to be in those positions in life so it helped how I see things and changed the way I thought a little bit.
What are your career goals?
To start a Interpreting franchise and become an ASL interpreter.
What made you want to choose a career in this field?
Because I’ve seen how I can impact the Deaf community and I want to be a part of the impact and the culture change. I know I can make a difference and advocate for the community.
What advice would you give a student considering UNCG and the School of Education?
Have an open mindset and always remember that people have your back, especially your teachers.
