A five-year grant will allow Dr. Ye He, a professor in UNC Greensboro School of Education’s Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education, to work with the National Center for Families Learning (NCFL) and other partners in North Carolina, to build upon the state’s family engagement infrastructure to improve learning outcomes for children and their families.
The project aims at exploring existing assets for family engagement across the state and build state-wide capacity to further engage families through research-based programs. The project will establish eight regional training hubs for professional learning and activities for family engagement, and work closely with local educational agencies.
Year one of the project will allow the partners to build the needed infrastructure and review current resources, services, and initiatives serving families before implementing family literacy, family leadership, and home visiting programs in three districts in the following years.
The North Carolina Statewide Family Engagement Center (NCSFEC) will work alongside the NCFL to provide an equitable, coordinated continuum of family engagement support designed to build the capacity of families, schools, and communities to address learning recovery and improve both student and family well-being.
By working to build the supports, the NCSFEC hopes to enhance learning recovery efforts through equitable, high-impact engagement that will increase student opportunities and academic achievement.
