Maria Rodriguez Campos is an Elementary Education major with a TESOL minor. She is from Sanford, N.C., and expects to graduate in May of 2028.

Why did you choose UNCG?

I chose UNCG because I heard it had the best program for Elementary Education. It has a diverse community and it makes me feel comfortable as well as welcome. It has a beautiful campus, and so many places students can explore. My parents also loved the campus and knew it was the best for me as a First Gen.

What is your favorite place on campus?

I love the gardens that are around the school. They look beautiful with so many colors and it makes the school look peaceful.

What experience at UNCG has had the most significant impact on you?

The Admitted Spartan Day made me realize that this school would be the best for me. They helped me around and showed me what I needed to have in order to be ready for my first year at UNCG.

What are your career goals?

My career goals are to succeed as an elementary teacher as well as helping students in my classroom. I want to help students that English is their second language learn in class too. I want to try to create a positive environment for my students.

What made you want to choose a career in this field?

As a young kid I always thought becoming a teacher would be the best for me. I love kids and I want to help them learn, because when I was a student I felt like I didn’t have interaction with my teacher due to being shy. I want to help kids learn and enjoy school themselves.
