Dr. Megan Martin, who serves as the coordinator for The Tutoring Collaborative for the Institute for Partnerships in Education (IPiE), has been selected as a recipient of the North Carolina Education Policy Fellowship (EPF).

Dr. Faith Freeman, IPiE co-director, said of this honor, “We are excited about the impact Megan’s participation in this program will bring to the Institute, its partnerships, and the broader (School of Education) community.”

The EPF is a nationally recognized fellowship program that promotes equitable education policy. The North Carolina EPF is the only statewide program of its kind that focuses on leadership and professional development in the context of education policy. The fellows come from diverse backgrounds, including public schools, higher education, state agencies, and a wide range of education organizations from across the state.

Said Martin, “I’m hopeful that participation in the EPF gives IPiE the ability to lead and advocate in equitable policies affecting our local districts and university.”

Through diving into both state and federal level education policy issues with colleagues from around the state, Martin says she hopes to “create and become part of a professional network beyond the Piedmont, have a broader understanding of educational policy and its implications at a statewide level, and learn what other IHEs and PSUs are doing in partnerships and educator preparation programs to meet the current educational needs.”

Over the course of the year the fellows will hold virtual meetings as well as in-person retreats in December and April. As an affiliate of the Institute for Educational Leadership in Washington, D.C., EPF members also participate in March’s Washington Policy Seminar.
