The American Association of College for Teacher Education (AACTE) held its annual meeting February 21 – 23, 2025. The theme of this year, “Beyond the Horizon: Charting the Course for Educator Preparation” brought together teachers, researchers, and administrators from around the world for 3 days of business meetings, presentations, learning labs and keynote sessions highlighting innovative and impactful work in the field of teacher education. 

Furthering their work in alternative licensure pathways, Dr. Faith Freeman and Dr. Jennifer Haddad Lingle presented additional insights and lessons learned from “Stories of Emergency Licensed Teachers of Color.” In this interactive learning lab session, participants unpacked real-world alternative licensure challenges scenarios by discussing key obstacles, pathway strengths, and potential policy or institutional solutions. Takeaways included: 

  • The essential role of belonging to a cohort 
  • The need for responsive and flexible support in an ever-changing educational environment 
  • Explicit navigation of content and program structures 
  • Uncovering and addressing the hidden curriculum
