The Heritage Language Academy (HLA) program is a university-school collaboration between the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages program in the School of Education at UNC Greensboro (UNCG) and Asheboro City Schools (ACS). HLA is a Saturday program that engages Spanish-speaking students and their families in project-based heritage language and cultural exchanges. The program is led and facilitated by ACS educators. UNCG teacher candidates also have the opportunity to participate in the program and engage in service-learning projects. HLA aims at dual capacity building among educators and families to promote multilingual education.
