Elementary Students Enhance Social Studies Learning With STEM Activities

Thanks to a nearly $25,000 grant from the Teaching with Primary Sources Partner Program through the Library of Congress, Dr. Ryan Hughes in the Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education has engaged in a project with a local charter school that will combine STEM and social studies for students in kindergarten through second grade. The grant also allows for professional development opportunities for the teachers of those classes.

Online Master’s in Education Programs Soar in U.S. News & World Report Rankings

In the recently released rankings by U.S. News & World Report, the UNC Greensboro School of Education has been rated No. 31 among the 2025 Best Online Master’s in Education Programs, No. 14 among the 2025 Best Online Master’s in Special Education Programs, and No. 12 among the 2025 Best Online Master’s in Education Programs for Veterans.

Meet the Researcher: Dr. Delma Ramos

Dr. Delma Ramos, an associate professor in the UNC Greensboro School of Education’s Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education, has been at UNCG since 2018. Ramos earned an undergraduate degree in social work, a master’s in student affairs, and a Ph.D. in higher education. Her work focuses on the experiences of underrepresented communities in higher education. Since joining UNCG, she has concentrated on expanding research about Latinx students in the U.S. South.

The mother-daughter duo of Dr. Rabia Qindeel and Laiba Siddique will graduate together from UNC Greensboro this December – Laiba with her bachelor of fine arts in new media and design, Dr. Raiba with her master’s in teacher education with a concentration in middle/secondary mathematics.

Paper by Ramos, TEHE Students Earns Honor

A paper authored by the Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education’s Dr. Delma Ramos, Dr. Cathryn Bennett of the Department of Justice and Policy Studies at Guilford College, and UNC Greensboro students Paul Nava and Akira Goodman has been recognized with the North Carolina Association for Research in Education with the 2024 Distinguished Paper Award.

Tan Works to Reach Children, Families With STEM Education

For Dr. Edna Tan, the Hooks Distinguished Professor of STEM Education in the Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education at UNC Greensboro, reaching children and families of historically minoritized communities to encourage participation in STEM fields has become part of her everyday life.
