AACTE announced that Cheryl Holcomb-McCoy, Ph.D., will become the new president and CEO, beginning Jan. 6, 2025. Holcomb-McCoy joins AACTE after serving as a distinguished professor and dean of the School of Education at American University in Washington, D.C., for over eight years.
In February 2024, alumnus Mohammed Alshuayl ’18 received a call from the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Education. The Ministry of Education nominated him to join a group of experts tasked with updating the Kingdom’s special education regulations.

Dawn Shirk ’23, a library media specialist with Guilford County Schools, says that a school library is the heart of the institution. “When I was a teacher, I collaborated with the librarian a lot. Even if we weren’t in the middle of a specific project, I could come in and say, ‘Here’s what I’m planning. Can you help me find some good books or websites? How would you do this?’”
