Practicing counselors face challenges when they seek access to educational materials that prepare them with all of the required knowledge components needed to apply for the Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACE) credential.
This credential is available from the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE), a corporate affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors. UNC Greensboro’s Department of Counseling and Educational Development developed a 45-hour continuing education training to provide these components. The project was a collaborative venture among five faculty members in the Counseling and Educational Development Department, the Division of Continual Learning (who worked with the faculty to develop a state of the art online training), and SERVE Inc. (who administers the course, provides students with support, and oversees finances).
What is the project’s goal?
The goal is to provide clinical supervision training to practicing counselors. With the help of Impact Through Innovation, UNC Greensboro’s Department of Counseling and Educational Development developed the required training so practicing counselors could apply for the national Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) credential. The ACS is a national credential available from the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE), a corporate affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors.
What is the innovation?
This is the only known, fully-online ACS training available.
What has been the impact?
- As of April 2020, approximately 1,040 individuals from across the U.S. and beyond have completed the ACS training, including those who might not otherwise have access to this specific type of training.
- The funds generated have allowed CED to offer numerous students Graduate Assistantships.
