In the fall of 2023, the National Center for Families Learning (NCFL) received a federal grant to establish a North Carolina Statewide Family Engagement Center.  In addition to NCFL, partners in this grant work include North Carolina Parents as Teachers (NCPAT), the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) and Book Harvest.

Our Vision

The vision of the North Carolina Statewide Family Engagement Center (NC SFEC) is to provide an equitable, coordinated continuum of family engagement support designed to build capacity of communities, schools, and families for improved student development and family well-being.  

Our Focus and Activities 

The NC SFEC will incorporate the following areas of focus and activities. 

  • Community Asset Mapping 
  • Family Literacy Site development and support 
  • Formation of an SFEC advisory council (51% > parents) 
  • Intentional connection with the National State Family Engagement Center network
  • Identify family engagement champions 
  • Establish regional training/technical assistance hubs to support family engagement 
  • Build capacity through high-impact evidence based support 
  • Incorporate digital tools to extend learning and advance equity
  • Support parent leadership opportunities 
  • Conduct policy landscape analysis 
  • Family Leadership opportunity development
  • Support the development of Family Learning Systems (NCFL 60X30)
