CED master’s student, Kristian Robinson, has been selected as a 2018-2019 NBCC Minority Fellow. Congrats!

Through the Minority Fellowship Program (MFP), NBCC seeks to “expand the behavioral health workforce in order to reduce health disparities and improve health care outcomes for traditionally underserved populations.” The NBCC MFP will help ensure that the behavioral health needs of all Americans are met, regardless of language or culture, thereby reducing health disparities and improving overall community health and well-being. By strategically promoting and providing fellowships to master’s-level counseling students, the NBCC MFP strengthens the infrastructure that engages diverse individuals in counseling and increases the number of professional counselors providing effective, culturally competent services to underserved populations.

Fellows receive a stipend, attend training and networking sessions throughout the academic year, and participate in several conferences focused on the program’s goals.

Kristian Robinson is a first-year master’s student who grew up in Alexandria, VA. Kristian decided to pursue a counseling degree after his time as a student and student-affairs professional at the University of Virginia. In his first year at UNCG, Kristian has been developing a sturdy foundation of culturally competent counseling skills. After graduation, Kristian will pursue licensure and hopes to provide clinical services to minority students on college campuses. The NBCC Minority Fellowship will allow Kristian to attend multiple conferences, participate in trainings, and develop skills to better prepare him to best serve minority populations, focusing his training on working with the LGBTQ+ and African American populations.
