The North Carolina Association for Research in Education (NCARE) Conference took place on February 13-14, 2025, at the Greensboro-High Point Airport Marriott. Since 1974, NCARE has worked to improve the quality of education in North Carolina through research and evaluation.

This year’s focus was the theme “Research, Remedy, and Repair: Toward a Just Education Renewal” Dr. Holt Wilson, who is the co-director of UNCG’s Institue for Partnership’s in Education (IPiE), shared how strong the sense of community among educational researchers and leaders at NCARE was. “Opportunities for researchers and education leaders to gather, exchange knowledge, and support one other are rare but also invaluable. They offer a chance to learn from new perspectives and be reminded that everyone is working toward the shared goal of the academic, emotional, and overall wellbeing of children and youth, their families, and our community,” Wilson stated.

The partnership between UNCG and WSFCS exemplifies the kind of collaborative efforts that the NCARE Conference aims to promote. The partnership presented on Research and Innovation: Investigating Student Engagement in Winston Salem/Forsyth County Schools. This collaborative research project between UNCG and WSFCS aims to address specific challenges within the school district. The team presented this research project at NCARE to other educators, researchers, and graduate students. Shureka Hargrove, Director of Research and Evaluation in WSFCS, was very excited to be part of this presentation. She stated, “working with the researchers from UNCG is an exciting opportunity and the feedback we received after our NCARE presentation from other researchers will help as we move forward into the data collection portion of this research project.”
