September 27 – 28, 2024 marked the Annual Color of Education Summit, hosted by the Dudley Flood Center for Educational Equity and Opportunity. The summit brought together educators, policymakers, researchers, students, parents, community members, and other key stakeholders focused on achieving racial equity and eliminating racial disparities in education.

Building off IPiE’s mission to make sharing knowledge easier and to work together in new, meaningful ways, Dr. Faith Freeman and Dr. Jennifer Haddad Lingle presented insights and lessons learned from our Licensure Pathways partnerships in a session titled, “Stories of Emergency Licensed Teachers of Color: A Pathway to License.” Key takeaways included:

  • The cohort model is pivotal
  • Communication must be clearly defined for all involved
  • Dedicated time to unpack the similarities and differences of hidden structures in higher education and K-12 education must be routinely included
