In between their internship hours in local classrooms, 53 students in the elementary education program at UNC Greensboro sit down at tables covered in cardboard and ask questions: What should I put in my future classroom? How will I arrange the desks? How many posters should go on the walls? What colors do I use?
It was announced on Friday, December 13, that Dr. Randy Penfield, dean of UNC Greensboro’s School of Education, will be assuming the university’s Senior Vice Provost role on a full-time basis effective January 2, 2025. Dr. Morgan Chitiyo, currently the chair of the Department of Specialized Education Services (SES), will serve as the interim dean of the School of Education.

Following a decade at the University of Alabama, Dr. Marcie Rock has spent the past 15 years as a faculty member in the Department of Specialized Education Services at UNC Greensboro. In her current role, Rock has been integral in the department’s instructional coaching efforts.
The mother-daughter duo of Dr. Rabia Qindeel and Laiba Siddique will graduate together from UNC Greensboro this December – Laiba with her bachelor of fine arts in new media and design, Dr. Raiba with her master’s in teacher education with a concentration in middle/secondary mathematics.
Thanks to the support of those who nominated honorees for the UNC Greensboro School of Education’s (SOE) Inspirational Educators program, seniors Natalia Fagundez and Michayla Lewis have been named the recipients of the SOE’s Student Excellence Award.
The Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations at UNC Greensboro’s School of Education hosted the annual Rebecca Carver Institute on Experiential Education on October 26, 2024.
