We are pleased to announce that Dr. Salih Rakap has been appointed Interim Chair of the Department of Specialized Education Services (SES) within the UNC Greensboro School of Education.

He assumed this role on January 2, 2025. Rakap joined UNCG as associate professor in the Birth through Kindergarten (BK) program. He also served as co-coordinator of the BK program and currently serves as chair of the School of Education Faculty Assembly. Prior to joining the SES department, Rakap served as assistant and associate professor in the Department of Special Education at Ondokuz Mayis University, Turkey, and Department Chair for that same department.

Rakap earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education from Gazi University, an M.Ed. in Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Florida. Rakap has accumulated an excellent record in teaching, research, and service, which — coupled with his leadership experience — will be invaluable in his new role.

We warmly welcome Dr. Rakap to his new role as Interim Chair of the Specialized Education Services (SES) Department and look forward to working with him in continuing to advance the mission of the SOE.
