SOE Academic Technology Services

The School of Education (SOE) Academic Technology Specialist endeavors to assist the UNC Greensboro SOE faculty and staff with their pedagogical and technological skills to improve classroom instruction and make their use of technology more effective and efficient.

Major priorities include:

  • Providing professional development opportunities to ensure constructive and active learning environments.
  • Identifying, developing, and sustaining enterprise level instructional technology systems.
  • Collaborating with campus constituents to assess programs, tools, and services that support their teaching and learning needs.

Professional Learning (Workshops & Training)

The SOE Academic Technology Specialist provides comprehensive instructor professional development through a variety of services and programs.

Academic Technologies

The SOE Academic Technology Specialist provides support for instructional technology tools that are available through the School of Education as well at the institutional level.

Services include:

  • Advice for selecting and implementing learning tools into courses
  • Consultations for customized services
  • Support for University Approved

The “tools” listed below can be used by instructors to deliver information to, assess progress, communicate with, or receive feedback from their students. Canvas

Canvas is the primary learning management system (LMS) for UNC Greensboro. It allows instructors and students to create and interact with educational and collaborative content beyond the traditional classroom. 

Google Workspace

Google Workspace is a collection of web-based collaboration tools, including email, chat, calendaring, word processing, and spreadsheets.

Office 365

Office 365 is the cloud-based Microsoft productivity suite that provides access to Office applications (like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote) and other productivity services. 

Panopto

Panopto is a video platform allows recording, webcasting, and video content management for distance learning. 

Respondus Lockdown Browser

Respondus LockDown Browser is an application that prevents students from accessing other websites, tools, and resources while taking online tests and quizzes.

Respondus Monitor

Respondus Monitor works in tandem with Lockdown Browser and uses the students webcam to create a recording of the student’s behavior while taking a test.

SoftChalk

SoftChalk is a tool purchased for SOE instructors that can help to introduce active learning opportunities and improve engagement through the creation of interactive elements, quizzes, modules, or an entire course housing a variety of media.

Zoom

Zoom is a videoconferencing application used for web conferencing, online meetings, and synchronous online learning.

CLASSROOM SUPPORT

UNC Greensboro Information Technology Services (ITS) provides classroom technologies support to foster the synergy of technology, pedagogy, and the learning space.
