SUMMARY:National Virtual Forum for Digital Games in Libraries
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the inaugural National Virtual Forum for Digital Games in Libraries\, a free online conference on October 29–30\, 2026\, focused on preserving and supporting digital games in library collections. \n\n\n\n\nRegister to join our national conversation on digital games in libraries.\n\n\n\n\nParticipate in hands-on workshops\, ask questions\, share resources\, and connect with others working at the intersection of libraries and digital games. \n\n\n\nMorning sessions feature expert presentations on key issues in digital game preservation. Hear directly from indie game developers\, librarians\, game studies scholars\, and legal/policy advocates shaping the field. Morning sessions will be livestreamed and recorded. There is no cap on the number of participants for the morning sessions and no deadline to register. \n\n\n\nAfternoon sessions are interactive and community-driven. Participation in afternoon sessions is free but will be limited to 150 participants per day (300 total over both days). If we exceed 300 registrants for the afternoon sessions\, we will select participants to ensure equal representation across all stakeholder groups. The deadline to register for afternoon sessions will be September 30\, 2026.

DESCRIPTION:The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction plays a central role in supporting research\, evaluation\, and data-informed improvement efforts across the state’s public schools. In this talk\, Dr. Shaun Kellogg\, Senior Director of Research and Promising Practices at NCDPI\, will discuss the department’s current research and evaluation priorities\, opportunities for collaboration with faculty and research organizations\, and the processes that guide access to and use of state education data. \n\n\n\nParticipants will gain insight into how research partnerships can contribute to educational improvement efforts across North Carolina while informing policy\, strengthening practice\, and advancing impactful scholarship. Faculty\, staff\, graduate students\, and community partners are invited to attend. \n\n\n\nA light reception will precede the talk at 2:30 PM. \n\n\n\nVisitor parking available in the Oakland Avenue Deck\, 690 Forest Street. \n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\n\n\nDr. Shaun Kellogg is Senior Director of the Office of Research and Promising Practices at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction\, where he leads a team that helps public schools make evidence-based decisions and identifies school-level practices that measurably improve student outcomes. He has spent more than twenty years in education\, first as a Peace Corps volunteer and elementary teacher and\, since 2011\, as an educational researcher directing evaluations and applied research funded by the National Science Foundation\, NCDPI\, and the Gates Foundation. Before joining NCDPI\, he held several leadership roles at NC State University’s Friday Institute for Educational Innovation\, including Director of Research and Evaluation\, Interim Executive Director\, and Director of the Learning Analytics in STEM Education Research (LASER) Institute.

It is the responsibility of everyone in the Spartan community to intervene when someone is displaying suicidal behaviors. Engaging in QPR training gives you the skills you need to recognize the signs of suicide and provide support to someone in need. Question Persuade Refer (QPR) is a national training offered to “To save lives and reduce suicidal behaviors by providing innovative\, practical and proven suicide prevention training”.QPR\, similar to CPR\, provides 3 steps to take to save someone’s life.

SUMMARY:School of Education Virtual Speaker Series
DESCRIPTION:Professional Development for Human Flourishing:The Case of Lesson StudyJennifer Lewis & Chris Nazelli\n\n\n\nIn this session\, we will present “lesson study\,” a model of teacher professional development that reliably produces significant gains in teacher learning and student learning. Lesson study is both simple and radical. Simple\, because in lesson study teachers follow repeated cycles of studying together\, planning a shared lesson\, observing one another teach the lesson\, and analyzing student learning from the shared lesson. But lesson study is also radical\, because it is driven by teachers’ interests and choices\, and led not by experts with slide decks\, but by teachers themselves\, in a form of inquiry-based learning about teaching. \n\n\n\nWe will present three different contexts where we have worked using lesson study: with inservice teachers\, with pre-service teachers\, and with university instructors. Ultimately\, weargue that lesson study and other forms of professional development can lead not only to improved teaching and learning in our schools\, but also to human flourishing for teachers and students alike. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Jennifer Lewis is a Professor of Mathematics Education and Teacher Education at Wayne State University. Jennifer was an elementary and middle school teacher for 10 years before her doctoral studies at the University of Michigan. Jennifer has been deeply influenced by teacher education methods in other countries\, and she brings these methods to schools in Detroit. Her research focuses on how teachers use mathematical and pedagogical knowledge in the interactive work of teaching\, and how teachers are prepared to work in high-poverty schools for children of color. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Chris Nazelli is a Professor of Teaching in Wayne State University’s Department of Mathematics and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for its Center for Excellence and Equity in Mathematics. For over 30 years\, Chris has served the students of Wayne State and the surrounding communities through the Emerging Scholars Program and the nationally recognized Math Corps. Chris studies\, facilitates\, and participates in lesson study cycles with preservice and in-service K–12 teachers and his university colleagues. \n\n\n\n\n\nQuestions? SUMMARY:Higher Education Student Association (HEDSA) Research Showcase
DESCRIPTION:The Higher Education Research Poster Showcase provides HED master’s and doctoral students with an opportunity to present research related to the 2027 theme\, Creative Solutions: Advancement\, Attainment\, and Access in Higher Education. Students are invited to share work from any methodological\, theoretical\, or disciplinary perspective that addresses challenges\, opportunities\, and innovative approaches in higher education while receiving valuable feedback and strengthening their scholarly communication skills. \n\n\n\nA panel of faculty judges will evaluate presentations based on alignment with the conference theme\, methodological rigor\, visual design\, and oral presentation. Outstanding presentations will be recognized with the 2027 HED Distinguished Research Excellence Awards\, including first- and second-place honors. \n\n\n\nLocation: EUC Breezeway

DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the annual Brock’s Critical Conversations Conference (formerly ELC Critical Conversations Conference) is to create dialogues to address the current socio-political climate in the United States.
