Dr. Jones is passionate about clinical mental health counseling. Her primary focus of scholarship concerns addictions, multiculturalism and counseling with offenders, particularly those with substance use and reentry issues. She also has an interest in increasing and valuing diversity in counselor education. She believes that through empathy and understanding counselors can connect with clients of all walks of life in a way that will be invaluable to not only the therapeutic relationship, but in the daily lives of both parties. She has worked clinically with clients who have been diagnosed with substance use disorders, long-term mental illness, offenders, adolescents, and seniors. She also has experience supervising school counselors and clinical mental health counselors. Dr. Jones enjoys working with students in many different capacities, especially in the classroom as they begin to construct their own knowledge and become active participants in the learning environment.
