Interpreting, Deaf Education, and Advocacy Services (IDEAS)
The Interpreting, Deaf Education, and Advocacy Services (IDEAS) major provides opportunities for study in three concentrations: Advocacy and Services for the Deaf; K–12 Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher Licensure; and Interpreter Preparation. All areas of study focus on the unique educational needs of deaf and hard of hearing children emphasizing language acquisition, teaching methods, and communication modes.
Specialized training in communication modes is offered through American Sign Language classes and the Sign Language Laboratory. Supervised experiences are available for student observations, volunteer work, and practicum in area public schools and other settings.

Lynne Allen
Lynne was previously a classroom teacher for students who are D/deaf or hard of hearing as well as an educational interpreter, working in a wide variety of settings and with all ages.

Specializing in digital pedagogy and ASL education, Mr. Griffin is an accomplished instructional designer and instructor. His passions include education and language acquisition of deaf children, interpreter, and deaf educator training.

Jon Henner
Dr. Henner has a passion for, Signed Language linguistics (e.g. ASL), Assessment of Signed Languages, Assessment of Signing Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children, Language and Cognition, and Research Methodologies with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children.

Claudia Pagliaro
Dr. Pagliaro has a passion for the education of Deaf students, American Sign Language (ASL), mathematics education, and/or teacher preparation

Samuel Parker
Several leadership roles reflect Mr. Parker’s service in the field of Sign Language Interpretation, include serving as the lead interpreter for President Bill Clinton’s Inauguration, and the National Democratic Convention in Charlotte in 2012 and has interpreted numerous theatrical productions across the country.
