Driving a school bus for Guilford County Schools, serving as a secretary in the county’s transportation office, and working as a teaching assistant in Rockingham County Schools (RCS) could not fulfill Justin Cunningham’s desire to work with students. So he decided to enroll in the initial cohort of UNC Greensboro’s Piedmont Teacher Residency Partnership program.
Following a nearly two-year process, the UNC Greensboro School of Education has been granted accreditation at both the Initial and Advanced levels by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Notably, the accreditation process recognized no areas for improvement in the UNCG program.
UNC Greensboro’s Carla Wilson, academic technology specialist for the School of Education, has been chosen to present at the 2022 UNC CAUSE Conference which will be held in Charlotte in October.

With mental health issues on the rise, it is important for counselors and teachers to enter the school with a trauma-informed lens. Trauma impacts so many individuals, including students, teachers, parents and legal guardians, and other school personnel. A trauma-informed approach helps teachers and school personnel consider how trauma impacts learning and behaviors of the children and adolescents in their classroom.
Seven graduate students from UNC Greensboro’s Department of Educational Research and Methodology (ERM) were able to make a total of four presentations at the Canadian Evaluation Society’s (CES) 2022 Conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba in June. The group was led by Assistant Professor Dr. Sandra Ayoo.
As part of the UNC Greensboro STEM Teacher Leader Collaborative’s (TLC) commitment to provide quality support to area science teachers, 20 elementary teachers from schools in the North Carolina counties of Harnett, Randolph, Rockingham, and Guilford visited campus for a summer institute. This collaboration of teachers worked to support excellent science education in local schools.
Dr. Morgan Chitiyo, the chair of UNC Greensboro’s Department of Specialized Education Services (SES), will be a keynote speaker at the 2022 South Africa International Conference on Education (SAICEd). The conference will be held in October in Pretoria, South Africa.
Dr. Cheryl Holcomb-McCoy, who earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education/School Counseling and Guidance Services from UNC Greensboro in 1996, recently wrote an article detailing the need for more school counselors with clearly defined roles for District Administration.
Dr. Jennifer Deaton, a faculty member in the UNC Greensboro department of Counseling and Educational Development (CED) has been accepted into the five-member cohort of the 2022 American Evaluation Association’s (AEA) Minority Serving Institution (MSI) Fellowship Program.
