Welcome to the Last Day of Fall Semester 2013!

SOE Reading Day Luncheon – Tuesday, December 3

We trust you are having an outstanding semester. This semester’s Reading Day Luncheon will be on Tuesday, December 3 in room 118 SOEB from 12:00-1:30pm. If you bring something, please drop it off by 11:30am.

As always, we will have lots of food and drink and great company to celebrate another outstanding semester at the SOE.

Snoopervision class

Betul Meydan, an advanced doctoral student at Ege University in Turkey, is winding down her 6 month government-funded visiting scholar time with CED.  Betul recently reflected on her time with the counseling program and all she has learned in her comments below. She is pictured with Dr. L. DiAnne Borders and the clinical supervision class she has attended all semester in the above photo (Betul is far right).  Dr. Borders reported that Betul has added much depth to class discussions in which she contrasted the US experience of supervising counseling students with the Turkey counselor education context.

Students and Alumni Receive High Accolades at National Counselor Education Conference

UNCG’s Counseling and Educational Development Department, Faculty, Students and Alumni Receive High Accolades at National Counselor Education Conference

Counseling and Education Development faculty members receive the Robert Frank Outstanding Counselor Education Program Award at the 2013 Association for Counselor Education and Supervision Conference in Denver.

The Counseling and Education Development (CED) department in the UNCG School of Education received national recognition during the 2013 Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) bi-annual conference, held October 17-20, 2013 in Denver, Colorado. Ranked as the third-highest graduate counseling program in the country by the 2013-2014 U.S. News & World Report, the CED department was selected by ACES as this year’s recipient of the Robert Frank Outstanding Counselor Education Program Award, which honors a counselor education program that exemplifies the importance of excellence through standards and innovation. The Department was selected due to the outstanding research and mentorship of its faculty and the strength of its accredited programs and clinical services, being described by nominators as “among the best in the field”.

The UNC Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) in Morehead City, NC recently hosted a group of UNCG pre-service teachers in the elementary education program who are working towards obtaining their NC Environmental Educator Certification. Graduate students at IMS took the group out to a salt marsh so they could play the part of marine ecologists for the day.

 

‘Spooky’ School Supply Drive in OSS – Thursday, October 31

Halloween is this Thursday, and to get in the mood the Office of Student Services staff is dressing up as characters from the literary classics of the Brothers Grim for Halloween. They are also collecting school supplies for Murphey Traditional Academy. So when you come down for some candy Thursday, make sure you also bring some school supplies (erasers, notebooks, crayons, pencils).
