Graduates are required to register for the School of Education Commencement ceremony by Friday, April 05, 2013. Click on the link above to complete the SOE Commencement Registration Form in order to take part in the ceremony. We will use the information you submit to list your name in the program, so please make sure the information you submit in your Registration Form is accurate.
Cap and Gown Orders
All Commencement regalia is ordered through the UNCG Bookstore, starting March 4, 2013. All participants must be dressed in full academic regalia in order to participate in the School of Education Commencement Ceremony. All graduation participants should arrive on the day of Commencement dressed in full academic regalia (caps, gown, tassel, sashes, etc…). Doctoral Candidates should have hood ready for ceremonial hooding.
Masters and Doctoral degree students must wear hoods; please see the University Bookstore for proper hood colors according to your degree.
The last date for ordering graduation regalia is April 12th (for doctoral candidates the deadline is March 22).
Please note that the UNCG Bryan School of Business & Economics will be hosting their Commencement Ceremony at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center (East Wing) directly prior to School of Education’s ceremony, so please allow additional time for arrival and parking.
Parking is free of charge and requires no pass or ticket.
Guests may arrive with the graduate or just prior to the beginning of the ceremony. This is not a ticketed event, so seating is on a first come, first served basis. We will make accommodations for guests with special needs; please make sure to indicate this information in your Registration Form. The earlier guests arrive, the better chance they have of getting the seats they prefer. Doors will open for seating at 5:15pm (est.). The doors will close promptly at 5:55 pm for seating in order to start the graduation procession at 6:00pm.
This is a very special day for you and your family and friends. We hope everyone enjoys the event. However, please keep in mind that small children and babies may cause a distraction during the ceremony.
GRADUATE CHECK-IN AND REGISTRATION
Assembling Prior to Ceremony – Be there by 5:00pm on Friday, May 10th!
All Commencement participants, dressed in full academic regalia, must arrive at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center foyer (SOE graduate holding area) NO LATER than 5:00pm. It is important to be there by 5:00pm to make sure you are checked in and lined up before the 6:00pm start. Please leave all personal belongings with a friend or family member or in your car. There will be no secure area to leave belongings during the ceremony.
ALL GRADUATES MUST SIGN IN AT REGISTRATION.
REGISTRATION CHECK-IN FOR GRADUATES BEGINS AT 4:00PM ON THE 10TH.
When you arrive to the Coliseum you will proceed directly to the registration table, where you will check in by last name (i.e. A-D, E-K, etc.) There you will pick up your numbered card with your phonetically spelled name and any approved honor you have indicated via online registration. A marshal will then direct you to the appropriate line up area. Make sure to keep your card with you for the name caller at all times. The number on your card will correspond with your place in lineup. You will be lined up alphabetically with your major for the processional and seated in this order during the ceremony.
COMMENCEMENT PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Graduates will march in and be seated by degree. There will be a brief welcome and introduction of guests by Dean Wixson. Chairman of the North Carolina State Board of Education Dr. Bill Harrison will be the keynote speaker. We will also hear from a representative from both the undergraduate and graduate classes.
You will line up and be announced by degree; Doctoral students are hooded first, then master students walk, followed by undergraduates. Your name will be announced (from your card provided at check-in) and you will cross the stage, shake hands, and receive a diploma cover.
Your diploma will not be in the cover you receive at the Commencement Ceremony. It will be mailed to you later by the Registrar’s Office after all degree clearances are completed by the University.
A photographer will be on-site to take your photo as you cross the stage. Information regarding how to purchase photos will be sent to you from the photographer after the ceremony. Please make sure to include a non-UNCG email address on your Commencement Registration Form so they will be able to contact you after the ceremony.
There is not a school-wide reception held after Commencement. The ceremony is anticipated to last around two hours in length, and should conclude by 8:00pm that evening.
